Bio

Hi,

My name is Michele Fanning. I am originally from Long Island New York. I moved to Punta Gorda in 2001. I have 2 children, one son and one daughter.

My teaching career started in 2010 when I started working at Desoto DJJ. I taught social studies there until it closed in August of 2012. That position was very challenging yet rewarding. Next I went on to teach at Community Green Charter School in Lake Suzy as an elementary teacher. This school was a project based learning environment with a focus on agriculture and wildlife. Unfortunately that school did not succeed and sadly was closed in December of 2012.

My next career stop was working in Charlotte County as a career coach for "at risk" youth ages 16-21. Again, challenging yet very rewarding. I always wanted to be back in the classroom, so when teaching in DeSoto County presented itself I gladly welcomed the position.

I began my Arcadia teaching career at Memorial Elementary. In 2013-2017, I began working as a 5th grade teacher. I have truley enjoyed every experience I had at Memorial. I learned a lot!

My new adventure is teaching at DeSoto Middle as a 7th grade civics teacher. Social studies was always my final destination. I am looking forward to share my love for community, and citizenship with all my new students.

I hope to inspire and ignite a passion for learning in all the students I engage with.
